1. Opening of the Council
President Grandi welcomed everyone to San Jose and pointed out that the USA Federation was
hosting the FIG Council for the second time. He thanked Steve Penny, Peter Vidmar, and
Dragomir Ciorosian for their hospitality. He was pleased to note that the Council was becoming
increasingly more interesting. He underscored the importance of having homogeneous and stable
rules.
President Penny welcomed the participants. He thanked his team and especially the Chairman of
USA Gymnastics, Peter Vidmar, as well as Dragomir Ciorosan from the USA NOC and Jay
Ashmore from AAI and FIG Honorary Member. He wished everyone a productive meeting and
reiterated his friendship and support to the FIG.
