Expulsions
According to article 8.4 of our Statutes, André Gueisbuhler regretfully had to propose a couple of
expulsions for financial reasons. The COM and LES Federations have not paid their annual fees
for 3 years.
Decision: The Council unanimously decided to expel the COM and LES Federations.
12. Allocation of FIG Events
2015 ART World Championships
The Secretary General outlined the procedure for selecting the city that will host the 2015 ART
World Championships. The presentation order of the bids, decided through a drawing of lots during
the Presidential Commission meeting, will be as follows: 1. Paris (FRA), 2. Glasgow (GBR), 3.
Orlando (USA). He invited the three delegations to make their presentations in turn.
Jacques Rey and his team presented the candidature of Paris. The FRA President stressed on the
fact that all those present in the room, regardless of their functions, and whether or not they will be
members of the FIG authorities when the competition will take place, were personally invited to
come to Paris in 2015; all travel expenses and the related accommodation will be paid by FRA.
The Glasgow delegation, headed by Alan Sommerville, GBR Chairman, then presented its
candidature. Glasgow offered free lodging and breakfast to all gymnasts participating in the
competition. Glasgow will pay an additional lump sum of CHF 100,000, which brings the total to
CHF 400,000. Council members will be accommodated free of charge during the event.
Finally Steve Penny and his colleagues from USA Gymnastics and the USA NOC presented the
candidature of the city of Orlando. Disneyworld management will offer 1,000 admission tickets to
the delegations. The maximum lodging rate will be USD 200 per room or USD 100 per person. In
addition an amount of USD 500,000 will be set aside to help Federations pay their lodging in the
hotels of the Hilton group -- which represents about 10 free days of lodging. In addition USD
250,000 will be available to fund the intercontinental trips.
In response to André Gueisbuhler's question about the funds provided for lodging, Steve Penny
specified that this amount would substantially reduce room rates according to the size of the
delegations.
Brian Stocks asked whether the travel expenses involve a specific airline company.
Steve Penny replied that USA Gymnastics works with United Airlines. However it is always
possible to negotiate, if a Federation prefers to use another company.
Jani Tanskanen asked what would be the longest local transportation time, which often is a
problem for the athletes.
Steve Penny replied that it would take 5 minutes by bus to travel from the hotel to the competition
hall. The infrastructure is excellent.
Before the vote, André Gueisbuhler displayed on the screen a comparative chart of the three bids
and reviewed the new commitments that were made during the presentations. He noted that all
three applications satisfy our requirements.
